Battery-electric vehicles Vs. Fuel cell vehicles

Fossil fuels are finite and increase in cost as supply dwindles. So the huge interest to the development of alternative energy souces occurs throughout the world. Consequently, battery-electric and fuel cells vehicles are on the road today. In 2007, there were 1.8 million alternative fuel vehicles sold in the United States, indicating an increasing popularity of alternative fuels. There is growing perceived economic and political need for the development of alternative fuel sources...

Methane steam reforming in microchannels

The flow of a reacting gas mixture in small channels is used in microchemical reactors to intensify the heat and mass transfer at chemical conversions. The advantages of small channels are the large specific surface of the reactor and small external diffusion resistance. This makes possible chemical conversions of gas mixtures at small residence times in the reaction zone and reactions under conditions of considerable thermodynamic nonequilibrium. Microchannel reactors are used, for instance, to convert hydrocarbons and alcohols into a synthesis gas and hydrogen and for a number of other energy-intense chemical processes...

Transport energy

Daimler-Chrysler has invested about 1.5 billion US $ in development of vehicle with hydrogen engine. Ford, BMW, General Motors invest vast sums of money in such works. Unfortunally, cost of vehicles with hydrogen engines is much higher than cost of vehicles with internal combustion engine. However, it seems to be reduced when some engineering and design problems are solved. Hopefully, vehicles with hydrogen engine will be more competitive by 2010-2015 and hydrogen infrastructure will be well-developed...

Hydrogen delivery is another difficulty to ubiquitous utilization of hydrogen. It is closely coupled with not sufficiently developed methods of hydrogen storage. Meanwhile, a hydrogen economy requires an infrastructure to deliver hydrogen from where it’s produced to the point of end-use, such as a dispenser at a refueling station or stationary power site.

At the threshold of a new era – era of hydrogen energy

Sooner or later, mineral resources of the planet will be exhausted. Past hopes for “the peaceful atom” turned out to be not as promising as they seemed, and the prospects of thermonuclear energy taming and its usage in the nearest future are still unclear. Hydrogen, being practically inexhaustible source of energy, may save our world.

Hydrogen Production

Since hydrogen doesn’t exist on earth as a gas, we must separate it from other elements.Every region of the world has some resource that can be used to make hydrogen.
